More than 250 people attend Owl Prowl, help to raise $900 in donations for new pedestrian bridge on South Huron Trail

Attendees at Owl Prowl help to make community safer, more active

The annual Owl Prowl event at Morrison Dam Conservation Area is more popular than ever with more than 250 people having attended the owl-themed event east of Exeter on Saturday, November 3, 2018. “We were very pleased to have such tremendous turnout again this year,” said Denise Iszczuk, Conservation Educator with Ausable Bayfield Conservation. “The Owl Prowl continues to draw people from all over the region. It was a great evening.”

The owl event raised funds for Jones Bridge, which will provide a safer, more scenic alternative for people so students, nature campers, and other trail users won’t have to walk by the roadway beside vehicle traffic to enjoy both sections of the popular South Huron Trail. Attendees at the Owl Prowl donated $900 towards Jones Bridge, the new pedestrian bridge being built on the South Huron Trail to make the community safer and more active. “We would like to thank all who attended for their generous support of Jones Bridge,” said Iszczuk. “We would also like to give special thanks to the many volunteers who helped to make this an enjoyable event for all.”

Ausable Bayfield Conservation, with sponsorship support by the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation, hosted the event about these amazing, local nocturnal animals. Children and youths, accompanied by parents and guardians, learned about these important nighttime creatures.

Owls didn’t make an appearance on the trails this year but people attending the event had the chance to meet some live owls, thanks to Conservation Halton’s Mountsberg Raptor Centre. The crowd of interested people also learned about owls through presentations and activities.

Thousands of people have learned about owls and their amazing nocturnal adaptations over the years through engaging multimedia presentations at this yearly moonlit guided hike to call for owls.
