Annual charitable golf tournament has raised more than $58,000 for South Huron Trail; has raised close to $20,000 for Jones Bridge

The South Huron Trail Fundraiser Golf Tournament on August 27, 2018 raised more than $6,000 towards a new pedestrian trail bridge on the South Huron Trail.

The community golf tournament, started by local volunteers and now hosted by the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation with volunteer support, has raised more than $58,000 for the South Huron Trail over the fundraising event’s history dating back more than a dozen years. The golf tournament has raised close to $20,000 of those funds, since 2015, towards the construction of Jones Bridge.

“I would like to thank all the event sponsors, golfers, and community volunteers who helped to raise $6,000, at the 2018 event, for Jones Bridge,” said Bob Radtke, Chairman of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation (ABCF). “This support helps us get closer to our goal of making the community safer and more active with a new pedestrian bridge on the South Huron Trail.”

The winning team at the 2018 charity golf tourney was Bernard Nymeyer; Peter Phillips; Darren Scrimgeour; and Bob Huck. The putting contest was a tie with Larry Wein and Luanne McCarthy as shared winners. Kelly Vader was winner of the women’s longest drive contest and David Bassaco was the men’s longest drive winner. Karel Hodgert won the women’s closest-to-the-hole competition and the men’s closest-to-the-hole winner was Paul Hodgins.
