Ausable Bayfield Conservation launches new tree sale as part of Watershed Awareness Day Event
Planting with Purpose is new online purchasing portal for convenient purchase of native species of trees with pickup in Varna on September 6

There is a new and easy way for property owners in Bayfield and area to buy native species of trees for planting. This native tree sale, called Planting with Purpose, includes a new online purchasing portal for buying trees.

Each landowner may order up to five trees through the new Planting with Purpose purchasing portal and native tree sale. All trees must be pre-ordered. Tree buyers pick up their trees on Saturday, September 6, 2025, in Varna, at the Stanley Community Centre, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (This pick-up day is a Watershed Awareness Day event).

The Planting with Purpose native tree sale and Watershed Awareness Day event is a partnership of Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) and the Municipality of Bluewater with support from the Blue Flag program and Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation.

Planting with Purpose is in addition to ABCA’s successful and long-standing restoration tree program. For landowners wishing to purchase 20 or more trees, fall tree orders through that program will still take place in the coming weeks, as they do every year. (Watch for the fall tree order form, coming soon).

The Planting with Purpose tree sale initiative promotes biodiversity and pollinator habitat by encouraging landowners to plant native species of trees in their yards.

Brooklyn Rau is ABCA Stewardship Technician. She says the new online purchasing portal and native tree sale is one more convenient way for local landowners to buy trees and to plant them to improve local forest conditions.

“We encourage local landowners to buy and plant native species of trees,” she said. “The new Planting with Purpose native tree sale provides an opportunity for landowners to purchase a native species of tree to plant in their yard. Native trees attract pollinators and increase biodiversity, benefitting their property and their community.”

If you wish to buy more trees, ABCA encourages you to stay tuned for their longstanding restoration-focused tree program which is returning later this autumn.

The PWP program includes potted Deciduous trees and ball-and-burlap Conifer trees. Species of large-stock trees include Silver Maple; Sugar Maple; Tulip Tree; Bur Oak; Red Oak; Serviceberry; White Pine; White Cedar; Hemlock; and White Birch.
